Checking Linux O/S Version
Generally speaking to check what version of a Linux distribution you have installed you can issue:
1.) For Centos/Fedora: cat /etc/redhat-release
2.) For Debian: cat /etc/debian_version
To check for the architecture type (e.g. 32bit or 64bit) issue: uname -i
To check for the active kernel version issue: uname -r
