Reinstalling an O/S via Client Portal

In this article we will discuss how to reinstall an O/S either Unattended (automated) or attended where you can set options such as packages, services, partitions and passwords during the install via VNC or SSH.

Prerequisites:

1.) Login to our Client Portal and select the relevant service you will be reinstalling the O/S on
2.) Look for the tab labelled "Server Reinstall" under the "Service Management" section

Linux/Windows Unattended (automated)

3i.) Select the O/S you wish to install and click "Send" - this will format your server (any data will be lost) and install a clean version of the requested O/S using default settings and the password your originally requested during your the initial order (this is displayed on the service page and in your welcome email).
3ii.) Once the O/S installation is complete you will receive a email to let you know that your server will shortly be ready (generally takes ~5mins from this point.

Linux Attended

4i.) After selecting the attended option you will receive an email (normally within ~5mins) providing you SSH or VNC login details for the install.
4ii.) You will want to download the appropriate client whilst you wait for this email. If installing Centos or Fedora you will need VNC Viewer or altenratively an SSH client like Putty if installing Debian or Ubuntu.
4iii.) After downloading the relevant client, take the connection details from the email you have received and place them into the remote client as follows:

Putty: Put the IP in the box named "Host Name" and the Port in the "Port" box and select the "SSH option" and hit connect.
VNC: Put the IP followed by a colon and then the port number e.g. 123.123.123:1 (1 being the port)

4iv.) Some setup sections such as network are preconfigured so once you have setup sections such as disk partitions, packages etc the OS will finish off the install as per normal without any intervention from RackSRV being necessary.

Windows Attended

5i.) After selecting the attended option you will receive an email (normally within ~5mins) providing you VNC login details for the install.
5ii.) You will want to download VNC Viewer whilst you wait for this email.
5iii.) After downloading the relevant client, take the connection IP from the email you have received and place them into VNC Viewer
5iv.) Some setup sections such as network are preconfigured so once you have setup sections such as disk partitions the OS will finish off the install as per normal without any intervention from RackSRV being necessary.

Other Operating Systems

If you require another operating system e.g. VMware, XenServer or your own OS then please open a ticket with our support department as unfortunately this will need to be handled manually by our staff during normal office hours.
