Transfer email from one cPanel server to another

Transferring email accounts from one cPanel server to another is a simple process:

In this guide, we assume your domain is 'mydomain.com' however these steps will work with any other domain too!

1.) Download the email accounts from the old cPanel server:

Open your FTP client, connect to the cPanel account to reach the email accounts and the messages are located. Go to the etc/ folder (located under /home/cpaneluser/etc/). Here you will see a folder named mydomain.com (the name of the domain you want to transfer the accounts/messages for). Download this folder to your local PC. This folder contains the email addresses (server configuration setup, encrypted passwords, etc.) associated with the domain.

2.) Upload the email accounts to the new server:

Now connect with FTP client to the cPanel where to which you want to transfer the accounts. Go to the etc/ folder and upload the previously downloaded mydomain.com folder.

3.) Download the email messages from the old cPanel server:

Similar to step 1 but this time, you should go to the mail/ folder (located under /home/cpaneluser/mail/). Download the directory called mydomain.com to your PC. This directory contains the messages for mydomain.com. This may take some time to download depending on the size of messages on the cPanel.

4.) Upload the email messages to the new cPanel server:

Now connect to the other FTP account where you want to transfer the messages and upload the folder mydomain.com to the mail/ directory.

The transfer of your email accounts and messages is now complete!

  • Jon@RackSRV has been great to us, we have a couple of off-net servers with them for backup/DR purposes and have had zero problems. Everything was set up quickly, despite us choosing the wrong options when ordering the server and the prices Jon gave us are fantastic, no-one else could even come near them. I've never...

  • I have found being a RackSRV client to be a pleasure right from my initial inquiries and server setup. I have been amazed at how fast support tickets have been responded to and resolved. Server and network performance has generally been excellent over two years, I would be more than happy to recommend RackSRV to anyone...

  • Thanks for your help and support after I got the server, it was working brilliant - well worth the money! Unfortunately we need to downgrade as we no longer need a server of this scale, we may well come back at a later time for a smaller server.

  • Well what can I say... I have been a web designer for around 12 years and have used half a dozen different hosting companies with services from shared hosting to dedicated servers. I can honestly say the service from RACKSRV is the best by far. They asked a few security questions to make sure I was not a SPAMMER which ...

  • I came to RackSRV needing a team to get a server up and running, monitor it, upgrade and update it when needed and to take care off all the 'techy' stuff that I'm incapable of! When I moved to RackSRV I'd have a number of previous server hosts for my websites, all of which left me frustrated. ...
