Transfer email from one cPanel server to another

Transferring email accounts from one cPanel server to another is a simple process:

In this guide, we assume your domain is 'mydomain.com' however these steps will work with any other domain too!

1.) Download the email accounts from the old cPanel server:

Open your FTP client, connect to the cPanel account to reach the email accounts and the messages are located. Go to the etc/ folder (located under /home/cpaneluser/etc/). Here you will see a folder named mydomain.com (the name of the domain you want to transfer the accounts/messages for). Download this folder to your local PC. This folder contains the email addresses (server configuration setup, encrypted passwords, etc.) associated with the domain.

2.) Upload the email accounts to the new server:

Now connect with FTP client to the cPanel where to which you want to transfer the accounts. Go to the etc/ folder and upload the previously downloaded mydomain.com folder.

3.) Download the email messages from the old cPanel server:

Similar to step 1 but this time, you should go to the mail/ folder (located under /home/cpaneluser/mail/). Download the directory called mydomain.com to your PC. This directory contains the messages for mydomain.com. This may take some time to download depending on the size of messages on the cPanel.

4.) Upload the email messages to the new cPanel server:

Now connect to the other FTP account where you want to transfer the messages and upload the folder mydomain.com to the mail/ directory.

The transfer of your email accounts and messages is now complete!

  • IAPS Security Services have been using the RackSRV network for about 2 1/2 years now and we would not go elsewhere for UK servers. RackSRV has always been a solid network since day one and has continually been expanded upon with new services each year since. I have personally called on Jon and his team early in the mor...

  • RackSRV is truly a quality co-location provider. Nothing is too much trouble for Jon, and the main co-location site is well-connected with multi-gigabit diverse routed links to the London PoPs. But, most importantly, the level of communication when issues arise is the best I have ever experienced in this industry. C...
