Checking Linux O/S Version

Generally speaking to check what version of a Linux distribution you have installed you can issue:

1.) For Centos/Fedora: cat /etc/redhat-release

2.) For Debian: cat /etc/debian_version

To check for the architecture type (e.g. 32bit or 64bit) issue: uname -i

To check for the active kernel version issue: uname -r
